Projector: the design platform for non-designers who cares about design. One part Canva and one part GIPHY, the creative tool is for everyone from teenagers making TikToks to startup CEOs writing pitch decks. The goal was to excite this wide range of audiences by upping the game in a space typically known for cheesy, generic content.
There were three big design tasks at hand: branding the platform itself, educating new users on its unique capabilities, and creating the actual assets for its template library.
Identity
Like a real-life projector that exhibits movies on the big screen, this tool exists to take your stories—whatever those may be—and blow them up for all the world to see. To do that, we created a flexible brand that could both shout far and wide or retreat into in the background, leaving room for user expression.
Anchored by simple black and white, the editorial-style typography and grid system is brought to life with a revolving door of captivating visual content.
Templates
The template library is Projector’s bread and butter, relying on a sophisticated and robust selection. With each asset like it’s own little mini brand, 20+ designers, strategists, and copywriters across Character joined the template workstream. The founding templates in this library are energized visual manifestations of the topics that interest us, bore us, teach us, confuse us, and—most of all—make us want to share.
Web & Social
Separate from the actual platform, the Projector website and social accounts are the landing pad for product education. Part demonstration and part inspiration, the content here shows potential users that the delta between design enthusiast and design creator isn’t all that big.
